Slice up the FRAC Pond

It hasn't snowed a single flurry,
But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry, so...

Uh. Oh. Sorry.  We Interrupt This Holiday Fracking/Flowback Extravaganza

OK. The fracking flowback flood water from the Fracking/Flowback Process on the F/F/WW Pad Site seems to be flowing down into this Festive Storm Drain.

Whatever...

SO climb down the chimney;
Put up the brightest string of lights I've ever seen.
Slice up the fruitcake;
It's time we hung some tinsel on that evergreen bough.
For we need a little music,
Need a little laughter,
Need a little singing
Ringing through the rafter,
And we need a little snappy
"Happy ever after,"

  1. I wonder if that drill pad site will pass inspection. Looks like a disaster in the making.

  2. For some reason seeing those pictures and listening to that song makes me want to cry. Does anyone else see a disaster in the making?

  3. Hope this will open some eyes in the area.

  4. So I asked the city to test the local storm run off collection site near here for heavy metals, lets see what they do...probably they won't. Once before they told they are not set up to do "lab tests" like that. They usually only check for turbidity, salinity, ammonia and the PH levels. They need to be looking for drilling effluents present at each stage but since the industry is exempt from the clean water act, nothing is legally required here except a Railroad Commission release check list for visible sheen etc...(no lab tests)and so wah-la...no laws broken.

  5. @Anonymous at 5:35: Inspections? Truly, from what I've learned, the right hand has no IDEA what the left hand is doing. They say they do. But with situations like this as the example, they DON'T. Thank you for your comment.

  6. @MTSP: I spoke with the RRC yesterday on another issue and that person (that shall remain anonymous here) told me that "truly" this is all new to them, too. He/she has worked there for over 30 years.

    He/she told me he/she had never been to the Barnett Shale. That must be the 3rd or 4th person I've spoken with there in Austin who works everyday on our issues here and yet has NEVER even been here. There's the problem. The laws currently on the books are "statewide" rules.

    So, when we call them with our complaints and issues they only have the old rulings to go by. It's pathetic that our state lawmakers are doing absolutely nothing to protect us.

    Thank you for your comment.

  7. Wouldn't a rational mind think that if the human race and ecosystem are at serious risk due to the dangers introduced by shale gas exploration and drilling, and if the the federal government is not protecting us, and the state lawmakers are not protecting us, that someone in our city government with a conscience might take a stand for what is right regardless of what the laws require? If our lawmakers suddenly create a loophole to legalize murder, rape, or theft, do we then commit these acts while maintaining a clear conscience? I truly don't know how those empowered to change these laws but don't can sleep at night. Lord knows, those poor folks living by drill pad sites don't.

  8. Anon at 7:41: It's clear that they don't want to know what's going on. That way they won't need to bother their conscience with it. After watching our governor flounder around trying to run for president...it just goes to show that we haven't really had very much in the way of strong leadership for some time, now. They sleep at night because they think very little during the day.
